A Guide to Action Against Cyberbullying Published

With the aim of providing guidelines to parents and educators to detect, prevent, and act in cases of cyberharassment or cyberbullying, the Ministry of Industry, Energy and Tourism has published the Guide to Action Against Cyberbullying.

Children and adolescents are intensive users of new technologies, a fact that makes them an especially vulnerable group to situations of cyberbullying and other risks associated with Internet use.

This manual, available for free download, has involved the participation of experts from different areas, such as representatives of parent associations, Google and social media experts, medical and psychology professionals, and members of state security forces.

According to data from the National Institute of Communication Technologies (INTECO), 5.1% of Spanish parents claim to know of cases of children who cyberbully their child, and 3.5% admit that the minor insults, threatens, or harasses others online.

All specialists agree that the role of parents and educators is paramount in preventing risks and that their work should begin by teaching and guiding children from the moment they start browsing the Internet. Parents often do not know the real dangers that children and adolescents face online, so it is essential that they are informed.
