ISEP University Launches ISEP Clinic: Free Online Therapies

In an effort to address the growing mental health crisis in Sinaloa, and throughout the country, this Monday, December 9, marks the launch of the ISEP Clinic project, an initiative that will offer free online psychological therapies. The objective is to provide accessible psychological care to all those who need it, eliminating economic and geographical barriers, and offering a safe space to improve emotional well-being.

A project with a social purpose

Dr. Nayeli Pérez-Tamayo, Deputy General Director of ISEP University, highlighted that ISEP Clinic was born in response to the mental health crisis in Mexico, where, according to official data, 15% of the population suffers from some mental disorder, such as anxiety, depression, or sleep disorders. Despite this high percentage, less than 25% of those suffering from these disorders receive adequate care, especially in rural areas and with limited resources.

“With over 40 years of experience in online education, our mission is to train professionals with a real impact on society. Today, with ISEP Clinic, we are taking a firm step to address one of the most urgent problems: mental health,” mentioned Dr. Pérez-Tamayo.

How will ISEP Clinic work?

The Outreach Coordinator, Carolina Araujo, explained that the program will be staffed by students from ISEP University’s Master’s in Clinical Psychology program, who already have solid professional experience. The master’s students will complete their remote professional internships, providing free psychological therapy as part of their training.

Araujo mentioned that to ensure the quality of care, sessions will be closely supervised by institution professionals, with a commitment to offer at least 15 sessions per patient, with the flexibility to extend this number if necessary.

She detailed that sessions will be conducted through accessible platforms as agreed upon by the patient and therapist.

A project with national impact

Although the program initially has a local focus in Culiacán, Deputy General Director Nayeli Tamayo emphasized that ISEP University has extended the offer so that people from all over Mexico can access this free service.

“The COVID-19 pandemic and the circumstances we have experienced in the State of Sinaloa have created a context of great emotional need. We want to be part of the solution, offering tools that help people be resilient in the face of adversity,” she declared.

Tamayo mentioned that with ISEP Clinic, ISEP University not only provides free psychological support to those who need it most but also strengthens the practical training of its students, who have the opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of their patients.

ISEP Clinic is not just an educational program, but a commitment of our institution to the community. We train professionals with a vision of solidarity and empathy, helping to improve the quality of life for those who need it most,” she concluded.
