In summer, eating disorders increase by 25%

With summer comes good weather, the desire to go to the beach, eat ice cream, wear the coolest possible clothes… but for many, all this is an ordeal.

According to a study by the Institut de Trastorns Alimenticis (ITA), summer is the most critical time for those affected by an eating disorder (ED), which increase by up to 25% during this period.

The increase in cases is due to the obsession with a perfect body, low self-esteem, and the negative influence of the media. The primary causes of a possible disorder are excessive fixation on diets, prolonged fasting, avoiding family meals, etc.

ISEP prepares future generations of psychologists by specifically training them in eating disorders in its Masters in Clinical and Health Psychology and Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology.

Professional specialization facilitates the early diagnosis of these types of disorders in clinical practice, partly preventing the physical sequelae they may generate and initiating preventive treatment.
