Psychology and Sport
- ISEP’s Master’s in High Performance and Sports Coaching provides theoretical and practical training to work in the field of sport as a specialist in maximizing performance and the effect of physical training.
- This is a training program that is increasingly attracting interest and gaining recognition, according to Patricia Ramírez, sports psychologist and master’s professor.
Improving sports performance with the help of psychology
Reaching the top of the podium and lifting trophies is not just a matter of talent and physique; psychological factors are decisive. Athletes and professional teams are increasingly aware of the need to optimize and enhance those psychological variables that can help them increase their performance. In the world of sport, in addition to physical training, it is also crucial to train mentally.
Importance of mental training
“Most athletes would agree that success depends 70-80% on the psychological factor. However, they dedicate many hours each day to physical training, but nothing to mental training,” explains sports psychologist Patricia Ramírez, who has worked with football teams such as RCD Mallorca and Real Betis Balompié and with national and international athletes. To address this reality, the Superior Institute of Psychological Studies (ISEP) offers the Master’s in High Performance and Sports Coaching with the aim of providing techniques and tools to influence the psychological variables that make the difference among athletes, as they are key to both high performance, injury recovery, and doping prevention.
Professional training for sports coaching
The master’s program includes both theoretical classes and practical coaching sessions with prominent active professionals with recognized experience in the field. Patricia Ramírez, who is part of the master’s teaching team, assures that “there is increasing interest and demand for sports psychologists and coaches, but it is necessary to disseminate the discipline so that people know what we do.” Specialists in high performance and sports coaching are mental trainers who work on confidence, self-assurance, concentration, emotional control, motivation, ambition, anxiety control, and decision-making, among other aspects.
ISEP’s Master’s in High Performance and Sports Coaching, which will reach its 3rd edition this academic year, qualifies graduates to work in the field of sport as specialists in maximizing performance and the effect of physical training, combining it with the development of the technique and tactics of each sport.
