On February 17, the Socialist Parliamentary Group registered an amendment in the Senate that aims to guarantee the exercise of healthcare activities for psychologists. This is a provisional measure that outlines the requirements that psychologists must provisionally meet to apply for the registration of their psychology practices or offices in the corresponding registry of centers and thus continue to carry out their healthcare activities. Until now, healthcare authorizations for health-related centers or establishments were only granted to licensed Clinical Psychology Specialists, but the new text establishes that those who hold a degree in Psychology or any of the graduate degrees in the field of Psychology that are attached to the branch of knowledge of Health Sciences, may carry out healthcare activities, provided they prove to have acquired specific training through one of the following ways:
- have completed graduate/bachelor’s studies, following a curricular pathway qualified by its connection to the teaching area of Personality, Psychological Assessment and Treatment, or Clinical and Health Psychology.
- have acquired complementary postgraduate training of no less than 400 hours (or its equivalent in European credits), of which at least 100 must be practical, linked to the areas mentioned in the previous point a).
This accreditation will allow applying for the registration of psychology practices or offices in the corresponding registry of healthcare centers, services, and establishments.
